Meet Cali Binks
Foundations and First Lessons
Cali Binks’ story begins with heart, hope, and resilience. Her father, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and mother raised four children, instilling in each a strong sense of duty, commitment, and service. Her grandmother, also an inspiring presence in her life, taught her to treat everyone with dignity and respect, and to always give to those in need. These lessons continue to guide Cali’s life and leadership.
Her parents moved the family temporarily from California to seek specialized medical services for her brother who was born with significant disabilities. Missing the sunshine state, they named her Cali as a reminder of home and brighter days ahead.
True to her name, Cali has brought warmth, optimism, and light to every classroom, school, district, and community she has served.
Her brother’s journey inspired her from a young age to dedicate herself to supporting children, especially those with special needs. She loved to play “teacher” in her backyard, imagining ways to help every student learn and grow, an early glimpse into the lifelong calling that would shape her future.
Her family eventually moved back west, settling in San Bernardino County, which Cali has proudly called home ever since.
Education and Experience
Cali was the first in her family to earn a college degree. She began her higher education pursuits at community college, working to put herself through school before transferring to the University of California, Riverside, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Development. She went on to earn her multiple subject credential and master’s degree in Special Education from Azusa Pacific University.
Cali began her teaching career as a first-grade teacher in the Fontana Unified School District. Impacted by her brother’s experiences, she transitioned into special education, where she served students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Those years deepened her belief in meeting the diverse needs of every child and established her lifelong advocacy for inclusive and equitable education.
Over the next two decades, her dedication and leadership led her to roles as Assistant Principal, Principal, Director, Assistant Superintendent, and Deputy Superintendent before serving in the role as Superintendent for the past 17 years.
